Fear. It hold us back so many times from being who God has called us to be in Christ and from doing what He has a called us to do. We must overcome fear through faith.

Fear of failure.

Fear of embarrassment.

Fear of rejection.

Fear of missing out.

Fear of the future.

Fear of the unknown.

Fear of death.

So often a spirit of fear paralyzes our hearts although our Father tells us in His Word that He has not given us a spirit of fear. (1 Timothy 1:7) and perfect love casts out fear. That means fear only comes from our enemy—the one who wants to hold us back and keep us from living a victorious abundant life that draws others to Jesus.

Over and over in Scripture, God tells his followers, “Do not be afraid.” He uses His Word to comfort and assure our souls. He reminds us that He is in control and nothing can get to us without being filtered through His grace.

Along with His Word, our Heavenly Father often uses the gift of music to soothe our soul and calm our fears. Lately, fear seems to be a popular theme among gifted Christian artists who have produced beautiful and creative songs reminding us of God’s word and standing bold in the face of fear.

These songs encourage me and remind me that I am not alone in my fears. Others brothers and sisters in Christ experience similar feelings, and God knows our hearts. He longs to comfort our fears like a Father comforts a small child during a storm.

May these songs minister to your soul. I pray God uses them to calm your fears and grow your trust in Him.

Eight Songs to Help You Overcome Fear

One of the first steps to overcoming fear is recognizing it for what it is and trusting God’s perfect love to cast our fear. Zach Williams help us do this with his song, “Fear is a Liar.”

Using a beautiful phrase from Scripture, Chris Tomlin reminds us that with God on our side, we do not have to fear anything.

Again, quoting scripture, Chris Tomlin reminds us of God’s command to “fear not” and trust in Him.

Scripture says perfect love casts out all fear. When we stand in the love of Jesus, fear has to leave.

Amanda Cook reminds us that our Heavenly Father can make us brave as we remember who we are and whose we are.

I know Bethany Barr Phillips personally and love her genuineness as she declares, “we will not fear” even in the face of circumstances we do not understand.

Join Francesca Battistelli and “break up” with fear in this fun song that puts fear back in it’s place.

This is my favorite in this list as Zach Williams reminds us who we are in Christ. I am a child of God, not a slave to fear.

May God’s perfect love cast out all of your fear (1 John 4:18) as He brings you closer to perfection in His love each day. Remember, Jesus has taken your punishment, and He can also take your fears.

Maybe part of your struggle to overcome fear is because you don’t know the love and forgiveness of Jesus. See Know Jesus or What is the Gospel Anyway for more details on knowing the One who has the power to calm our fears.
