My mornings need more than good intentions; they need a miracle. I have all but given up on ever being a morning person. I know starting the day right will help the rest of the day go better, but it’s so hard! Do you know what I mean? But starting the day with Biblical affirmations for The Miracle Morning can help!
After listening to an interview with Hal Elrod on Ruth Soukup’s Do It Scared Podcast, I decided to read Hal’s book, The Miracle Morning. Overall, I really liked the book. Who does’t want to be experience “Level 10 success” in every area of life!!! Hal shares how to start your morning in a way that will improve yourself and in turn, improve your life, including relationships, career, or anything else that you don’t consider a 10.
Adapting The Miracle Morning Approach
I do believe Elrod’s method can be life-changing with one adaptation. As a Christian, I felt uncomfortable with the me-centered approach to life and success. Confidence in self is helpful, but it can only take you so far. We are human with limited abilities. To really succeed, we must depend on something (really, Someone) beyond ourselves.
When we consider what success would look like in every area of our lives, we must look at our life from a God-centered perspective rather than a self-centered approach. I understand Hal is trying to reach a very wide audience. He does mention that some may choose to pray or read Scripture during The Miracle Morning, but he is trying to make sure he writes to people of all faith or no faith.
Like other self-help books, life coaches, and counselors today Hal suggests those seeking a better life spend time daily stating personal affirmations out loud. These affirmations are a vital part of The Miracle Morning. Theoretically, these positive statements build confidence and the subconscious begins to believe even those things that the conscious mind doubts. Statements such as “I have the power to achieve my full potential,” “I control my destiny,” or “I deserve success,” fill people with confidence to try new things and keep pressing forward.
Live for the Glory of God
As a follower of Christ, I am leery of the “me” focused approach, but I do think reminding ourselves of God’s truths instead will accomplish even more. I searched the Scriptures and found many passages that offer Biblical affirmations for Christians who want to live to the glory of God rather than self.
Repeating Scripture based affirmations can help us grow our faith and our confidence in who Christ has called us to be. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).
These affirmations are not like a “magic” guarantee of a successful, prosperous life, but they will help our minds and hearts focus on the transformation God is creating in our lives as we become daily more like Jesus.
I haven’t yet taken Hal’s “30 Day Miracle Morning Challenge,” but I plan to start as soon as my baby girl is sleeping better! (You can get his book here or try Elrod’s fast start method first. His method has turned those, like me, who hit the snooze button multiple times each morning into people who look forward to getting up at the sound of the alarm clock. I so NEED that!
Eventually (and hopefully sooner than later), I will use these Biblical affirmations for The Miracle Morning. Until I get the motivation to get started fully I will start with what I can, I will repeat these affirmations to myself, trusting the truths from God’s word to penetrate my soul, change my heart, and grow my trust in Jesus.
