Praying the scriptures is a sure way to improve family relationships. When using God’s word, we pray according to God’s will for our families. Sometimes God shows us passages that are especially relevant to the issues we are currently facing at home. Right now I am praying scriptures to improve our family relationships because we need God’s help!
If your family is like ours, you need reminders daily to choose kindness, love, pleasant words, and forgiveness. One night recently my husband and I spent a long time with two of our teenagers admonishing and encouraging them to let go of their anger toward each other before going to bed.
I shared several verses from Ephesians 4 that I had learned long ago. The next morning, the focal passage for my daily devotion using the First5 App from Proverbs 31 Ministries just happened to be Ephesians 4:25-32. The Scripture and devotion spoke directly to our situation.
I texted the devotion link (from the First5 App by Proverbs 31 Ministries) to my kids, praying God’s word and the writer’s insights would penetrate their hearts. As I was rereading the passage later, I began to praying this scripture passage over our family relationships. I am sharing my prayer, hoping that you may be blessed through praying God’s word over your family along with me.
A Scripture Prayer for My Family
“Father, let us put away lying and speak the truth with our family for we are members of one another. Help us not to sin in our anger, let the sun go down on our wrath, or give the devil a foothold. Keep us from stealing (time, work, love, joy), and to work with our hands in what is good so we will have something to give (time, love encouragement, forgiveness) each other when in need. Let no corrupt words come out of our mouths, but what is good for building each other up that it may give grace to each one who hears. Keep us from grieving the Holy Spirit by Whom we were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from us, with all malice. Help us be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave us.”
“In Jesus name, Amen.”
I want our family to remember that following God’s Word will help us keep peace and good relationships with other. His instructions are for our good and His glory always.
