Lies. So many times the voice in our head does not tell the truth. Instead, the negative words we repeat in our mind over and over that continue to bring us down come straight from the father of lies. We often listen to the lies rather than the truth of God’s Word.
I can’t do this. All I do is mess everything up. I am wasting my time. I’ll never change. My circumstances will always be this way. Tomorrow will not be any better. It doesn’t do any good to try. I am ruining my kids.
Our family is reading Kingdom Tales out loud as a part of our homeschool day. These allegorical stories of the Kingdom of God point to great truths that apply to easily in our lives. Recently, we read a chapter that really resonated with me as a mother.

Little Child had to cross a garbage dump to reach Bright City where his brother worked for the restoration of the kingdom. Huge mountains of refuse and trash filled this dump and blocked the view, and made the path difficult to follow; however, the Naysayers and Burners who lived there brought the real danger. They tried to confuse those who tried cross and keep them from reaching Bright City.
Little Child had the gift of truth. He knew not to believe the lies and false signs, but to stay on the path. Still, when someone who looked like a friend offered him an easy ride across and a sign told him how to avoid wolves, he stepped off the path. Only the truth pulled him back and kept him from disaster. “Always stay on the path,” he repeated to himself then saw through the deceptive words and temptations.
His hardest test came when a thick fog darkened the sun. The voices told him nightfall was near and he would never make it to Bright City. Little Child came close to despair. Then he remembered the truth. The sun shone high as he fought through the wolves only minutes earlier. This darkness was only a deception. “The path will be clear,” he reminded himself. When he spoke truth the darkness gave way to reveal next step. As he walked repeating the truth, the path became brighter, the sun shone again, and he could see Bright City in the distance.
Little Child arrived safely by using his gift of truth. He joined his brother and many others in working for the restoration of the kingdom and used his gift to help himself and others.

Lies In Our Family
As we discussed the story, I named lies that keep our family from living in peace with each other. We’ve struggled with fighting among siblings, disrespect toward parents, grades in school, etc. The lies just feed the struggle.
“I can’t control my temper.”
“I might as well not even try.”
“Things will never get better.”
“I can’t do this.”
And on and on.
I reminded my children of the truth of God’s Word. A soft answer turns away wrath (Proverbs 15:1), you are a new creation in Christ, all things are possible with God, you can do all through Christ who gives you strength (Philippians 4:13), he who began a good work in you will complete it (Philippians 1:6), you have all you need to live godly (2 Peter 1:3).
As my children looked on blankly, I thought very empathically, “I am wasting my breath!“
I’ve uttered those words to myself many times, but this time I recognized the lie.
I stopped. I confessed to my children this lie that came to me even as I was warning them not to believe the devil’s lies. I claimed the truth of God’s Word.
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 NIV
Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 NASB
Now I am so much more aware of lies in my head- the lies that keep me discouraged and defeated when Jesus wants me to live in His joy. I sometime still fall to the deception, but the Holy Spirit reminds me of the truth and leads me back to the path so the I may complete the race He has called me to run.
What lies play over and over in your head? Do you know God’s Word well enough to refute the lies with the truth? These passages help me remember the truth of who I am and how I can live in Christ.
Dear Christian friend, we have the gift of truth in the Bible. I want you to remember these words. May they bring you comfort and peace. May the Holy Spirit bring them back to your heart every time you hear the lies.

Positivity is such an important lesson for kids these days, they live in such tough times. And I think the Christian tradition is beautiful, the way it pervades into the art, architecture and I see, into the daily lives of its followers is simply beautiful! 🙂

I don’t think we ever truly change on the outside until we allow Christ to change us on the inside. Oh, we might tidy up a few things, but fundamental alterations begin with a changing of our minds! Thanks
nice post! at one time i allowed the lies to play more than the truth not understanding the lies will always come but it is our response to them that is important. when i learnt this i saw i was able to live a better life and i was able to do more not falling into self condemnation.
